What do I need a button cell for?

As the design of the small, round and flat cell is very similar to a button, these batteries are also called button batteries. Button cells are mainly used in applications with low power requirement of power or in devices that are rarely used.

Using the right type is important

There are four different types of button cells:

  • Lithium button cells are used in applications that require a power supply over a long period of time, such as car keys.
  • Alkaline manganese button cells are often used in small electronic devices, such as pocket calculators. These batteries are not leak-proof and we advise against using them in a watch.
  • Silver oxide button cells are the most commonly used watch battery and are especially reliable.
  • Zinc-air button cells react with the air and are activated when the protective film is removed. These button batteries are used in various forms, mostly in hearing aids.

Batteries for watches

In almost all digital and analog watches today, button cells are used. The small flat batteries are highly reliable and ensure a long operating time of the watch. Our watch batteries are silver oxide batteries. The advantage: The batteries have a long operating time with high reliability.

We show you how to easily find the right replacement battery for your watch.

The name of watch batteries consists of two letters and four digits.
The letters stand for the chemical composition, the following digits indicate the diameter and the last two digits stand for the height of the button cell.
There are also the following technologies: CR stands for lithium manganese dioxide battery, LR for alkaline manganese battery and SR for silver oxide zinc battery.
